Hi! My name is Monica Collins, and I am so happy to be working with your student this year!
I was born in Athens, Greece, and raised in a military family. We moved to Valdosta when I was in the 3rd grade, and I’ve proudly been a Viking ever since! I graduated from Lowndes High School in 2007, where I was a member of the Georgia Bridgemen. I then attended Georgia Military College, earning a degree in Sociology. Following that, I graduated from Valdosta State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education, and I later completed my master’s in Elementary Education along with a Reading Endorsement. I’ve also had the privilege of mentoring VSU teacher candidates and teaching English online to Chinese students.
This is my 14th year teaching at Dewar. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Pre-K through 2nd grade students, and truly love teaching younger children. I’m dedicated to helping them thrive both socially and academically, especially in building a strong foundation in reading and math. I’ve also had the opportunity to serve as a mentor for VSU teacher candidates and teach English to Chinese students online.
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and my sweet dogs, Winston and Theodore. I’m passionate about helping children develop a love of learning, and I can’t wait to get to know your child and partner with your family for a successful school year!
