Journey PBIS Framework
P.B.I.S. Stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
There are three main parts to PBIS:
1. Teaching appropriate behavior throughout the school building
2. Providing interventions when behavior expectations are not met
3. Recognizing students when behavior expectations are met PBIS uses practices and strategies for all students to increase academic performance, improve safety, decrease problem behavior, and establish a positive school culture.
This approach focuses on “catching the child being good, ” using “teachable moments, ” redirection, and acknowledging accomplishments as opposed to a punitive format. Negative consequences are built into the program, but the emphasis is on positive outcomes.
