Our Story
The JOURNEY program has been in existence in the Lowndes County School (LCS) system since 2019. This program was spearheaded by the current Superintendent Sandra Wilcher of LCS who then worked as the Lowndes County Schools social worker. She and her student support team/staff decided that they wanted provide an educational setting for students who needed something different; something unique that could be an avenue or a path for students before they entered into the home school they may need a little additional support to be successful in school. This unique setting became what is now JOURNEY.
The JOURNEY program supports students with social, emotional, and learning needs by offering a structured, inclusive environment that prioritizes individual growth and well-being. Through personalized learning plans, social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum, and targeted academic support, the program helps students build confidence and resilience.
Key wrap-around and wellness services include one-on-one and small-group instruction, counseling, behavior support plans, mentorship, and close collaboration with families and specialists.
The goal is to equip students with the tools they need to succeed in school and beyond—academically, socially, and emotionally.
This program also houses our GNETS students. The Journey program serves the needs of all elementary and middle schools in the Lowndes County School system.
