Welcome to Dewar, Military Families!

We are so glad you are here!

Dewar Elementary School is honored to have such a large population of military families. We treasure the cultures, stories and memories that each student brings from their military experiences. While we know sometimes being a military kid is tough, we try our best to provide supports for our students and families. Throughout the year, we will provide activities to showcase our military families, students, and all of the knowledge they bring.

If you are a new family to Dewar, we welcome you! Please make sure to let us know prior to your tour of the school that you are military, so we may connect you and your student(s) with our military supports.

Did you know our school has a licensed provider who works specifically with our military students of active duty families? Our Military and Family Life Counselor is happy to provide extra support to your student(s). Please contact us if you would like more information.

Were you aware that Georgia has the 'Georgia Military Family Act'? This was put in place to help support Georgia's military families as a parent leaves for extended periods. This act grants a specific number of excused absences for students who's parent is leaving on deployment/short tour, returning, or coming home for a period on mid-tour. Please reach out to Moody's Airman and Family Readiness Center at 229-257-3333, or Moody's School Liaison Office at 229-257-4380. You can read more about the process here.

Have you visited the Military One Source page lately? It is full of information, from helping with a PCS, getting information on finding a local/telehealth counselor, and even helps with your taxes! Check it out!

Those who fund the program determine eligibility for its use. Eligibility can change, and program availability is dependent upon available budget and is not guaranteed.
