Transitioning to Middle School
Leaving the comforts of elementary school and transitioning to the "big middle school" is sometimes scary for fifth grade parents and students. The counselors at Hahira Middle provide several opportunities to make this transition easier for all involved.
All 5th grade students from Hahira Elementary and Westside Elementary will visit HMS during May each year. Students are able to tour the school, meet sixth grade teachers as they explain procedures for middle school, listen to the 6th grade band and chorus perform, and learn about Middle School opportunities! A packet of information will be given to each student on that day for each parent to read.
Rising 6th grade parent night will take place in May. Parents from WES and HES are invited to attend an information session about the policies and procedures for middle school. Middle school teachers and personnel are on hand to answer any questions about academic classes, clubs, sports, band and chorus.
Summer Open House: Before school starts in the fall, all sixth grade parents and students are invited to attend a summer orientation where they will have the chance to tour the school with their team of teachers, put money on their lunch account, order class t-shirts, and find their homeroom class before the first day of school!
