Ready for Action! 

(Paid apprenticeship film training)

Program offered in partnership is Arkansas Economic Development Commission & Office of Skills Development.

Have you always wanted to work in film but you don’t know how to break in? This free training program will prepare participants to earn a living in the film industry right here in Arkansas! 


READY FOR ACTION is a free workforce training program designed to build up the film crew base in Arkansas! We will train participants in 1 of 4 specialties within film production. The program is FREE for all and we will accept up to 30 participants. No prior experience required!

DATES:

PHASE 1: ORIENTATION

            Sat, May 18, 2024 10:00AM-6:00PM in Little Rock *Lunch will be provided. 

PHASE 2: SKILLS TRAINING (June 1-15th)

            Camera + G&E: June 1-2, June 7-8, June 15-16 full days in Little Rock

            Production:   ZOOM, Various nights and weekends

            ART:  ZOOM, Various nights and weekends

PHASE 3: Production in Action (In Hot Springs)

Prep week: June 17-19 for Production & Art department only. (Camera, G&E off during these days)

            June 20th: Tech scout (ALL) ½ day

            June 21st: Prep day (ALL) full day

            June 22-23rd: Production (ALL) full day

            June 24th: Wrap day + Wrap party

PHASE 4 - Paid Apprenticeship: 

   TBD: Varies based on the film production schedules.

Documentary Filmmaking with Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival (make a short documentary film)

Truth is stranger than fiction—and often more interesting! Documentary storytelling is in the midst of a renaissance that has been going strong for more than three decades. If you want to delve into nonfiction narratives by bringing a story you care about to the big screen, you’ve come to the right place! In partnership with Low Key Arts’ renown filmmaking program Inception to Projection, HSDFF will host  a documentary bootcamp where participants will direct, produce and edit their own short documentary film that will be showcased at the 33rd Annual Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival October 18-28, 2024. The course will explore the process from concept through development to production and postproduction with the intention of completing 1 film ranging in length from 3 to 10 minutes.

I2P Traditional (make a short scripted film)


Inception to Projection TRADITIONAL is a 6-week intensive film class open to all ages. Every participant will write, direct produce and their own original short and the final films will screen at the POV Fest in January 2025. 

Screenwriting Lecture classes are spent learning the fundamentals of writing for the screen such as pitches, outlines, treatments, notecards, and screenplay pages. Participants will prepare a short film script that they will then learn how to produce themselves.

Production Lecture classes are spent learning filmmaking fundamentals such as directing, producing, casting, cinematography and editing. Participants are expected to work on small crews for one another, giving each filmmaker an opportunity not only to write and direct their own film but also practice production roles such as cinematographer, producer, first assistant director, sound recorder or production designer.
