Lower Kiski Search and Rescue became part of the Lower Kiski Ambulance Services Rescue Division in 2007, and in 2008 became a recognized deployable resource for the Pennsylvania Search and Rescue Council (PSARC).
We are a volunteer non-profit search and rescue group currently with 16 members and 12 K9s. Ten of our members have completed the National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR) testing and are certified as SARTECH II. Three of the K9 are certified to the trailing standards of PSARC and one to the trailing standards of National Association of Working Police Dogs (NAPWDA). That training is ongoing for ground persons, K9 handlers and their K9s.
We provide ground support, search management and trailing K9 in assisting requesting authorities in locating missing persons. Our primary response area is a 4-hour radius from Leechburg but will assist where we can.
Lower Kiski Search and Rescue is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year and is provided at no charge.
We are dispatched through Armstrong County 911 or when requested by Law Enforcement, Fire Department or Emergency Management.
We also provide community education about search and rescue, wilderness first aid, our services and how the search dogs play a role in helping to locate a lost person.
