The Lowell Teacher Academy provides all new hires with a mentor.
As a mentee your responsibilities are as follows:
Communication with mentor in-person, or via email, phone, text.
Weekly check-ins with your mentor.
Attend the monthly check-in meeting. Monthly meetings are organized by mentors, giving new hires the opportunity to interact and share experiences with other mentees at various grade levels within the building.

The Role of a Mentor
Mentors provide confidential, instructional, social-emotional, and logistical support to educators as they navigate their new roles. Mentoring may occur in one-on-one or group settings and can include:
Facilitating reflection and discussion on successes, challenges, and overall experiences.
Establishing and maintaining a trusting relationship that emphasizes confidentiality, collaboration, and professional growth.
Mentor Responsibilities
Provide feedback to the LTA regarding mentee progress, common challenges, and program improvements.
Year 1: Mentees- Communicate weekly with mentees (in person)
Coordinate and facilitate monthly mentor-mentee meetings.
All monthly meetings must be documented as required ( LTA provides a Google Form for documentation posted below.)
Year 2: Mentees- Communicate regularly with mentees (as needed)
Coordinate and facilitate monthly mentor-mentee meetings,(as needed.)

When Additional Support Is Needed
If a mentee struggles (e.g., classroom management), it becomes the responsibility of the administration to provide appropriate support.
If the mentor requires support (e.g., connecting with mentee, observation/meeting coverage, monthly meetings, etc.), notify the LTA -Kara and Karen.

Mentor Stipends
Per the UTL Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), mentors stipends (paid in December and May) are as follows:
$1,250 per assigned first-year teacher
$ 700 per assigned second-year teacher
