We will be using Google Classroom as our main tool to navigate through our learning this school year. Daily assignments will be posted in Google Classroom and you will be expected to pass in most assignments via Google Classroom as well. Everything will be as simple and as organized as possible for easy access!
View these two videos ( video 1 / video 2 ) for a great "how to" navigate Google Classroom as a parent (from the lens of your child)
Parents can be linked to their child's Google Classroom via email but they will ONLY receive email summaries; if you would like to see your child's work in real time (and be able to keep track of what they have completed or are missing) you must log into THEIR account and view it from their lens.
Most parents and students have been utilizing Class Dojo throughout their child's time in school. It is used to keep track of student behavior/progress to award points that students can use to attend incentives throughout the school year. In addition, Dojo allows teachers to communicate with parents in a simple "instant messaging" platform. Dojo will be the best way to connect with your child's teacher, aside from direct email.
Teachers will share out their Dojo codes/invites for you to access.
In addition to Google Classroom, we will be utilizing other tools made accessible by Google/G-Suite, such as Slides, Docs, Sheets, Forms, Drive, etc. All of these can be found by clicking the little square grid (see image).
Students can participate in class by uploading things to an online virtual “bulletin board", where they can collaborate, reflect, and share links/pictures, in a secure location. It can be used in a variety of ways for many different assignments. What is great about this tool is that it offers more options for students to upload responses and participate.
There sites allow students to study vocabulary via learning tools and games! They can access flashcards that have been made by their teacher, search up a set made by someone else, or create their own! They can play games inside each set of flashcards; by working to beat a classmates' high score they are actually studying their words! We can also play live as a class!
Students DO need their own account, but many already do from previous years.
Students are responsible for keeping up with their work as well as their grades. To do this, use the "Aspen Gradebook"
Step 1. Make sure you’re in the correct domain (Lowell Public Schools)
Step 2. Enter your school ID
Step 3. Enter the password given to you by the school.
*If you ever get locked out or forget your password you need to email the helpdesk (helpdesk@lowell.k12.ma.us)
You will be working almost entirely on your Chromebooks so it is important you know how to use them! Specifically how to screen shot, copy, paste, and split your screen!
Would it help you process better if something was read TO you while you followed along???
Step 1: “Real Aloud” is a Google Chrome add-on extension.
Step 2: Google “Read aloud” extension
Step 3:Add it to your chrome!
Step 4: Fix the voice/speed/pitch to your liking
Emailing a teacher (or any adult) requires some level of professionalism. Please refer to this as a guide of how to do this appropriately. Follow these easy steps to ensure that you get a timely response from your teachers (and in the future, your bosses!)
Step 1: Turn the dial to the right 2 or more time and stop at the first number.
Step 2: Turn the dial to the left 1 full turn, pass the first full number and stop at the second number.
Step 3: Turn the dial to the right again once, and stop at the third number.
