Elements
1.1 Knowledge of Learners and learning style
Being in a small rural school allows me to get to know my students individually as well as really gain an understanding of their learning styles and needs. I love being able to work closely with staff and students alike.
1.2 Effective and knowledgeable teacher
Both of these projects were done with enthusiasm and great interest in the subject area. I have always had a great love for Nebraska history and taught business for 5 years prior to taking over as the media specialist.
1.3 Instructional partner
Both teachers I worked with were great! They are so knowledgeable in their content areas and made working with them enjoyable and taught me a lot as well.
1.4 Integration of twenty-first-century skills and learning standards
Both collaborative projects use the integration of 21st-century skills and learning standards.

Elements

Reading felt as if it was almost extinct in our 7th-12th two years ago. Students didn't read and had no desire to even visit the media center. Fast-forward 2 years and we have students reading for enjoyment!
2.2 Reading promotion
I have students help me pick out books every year! I need to know what my students want and learn more about who they are as people!
2.3 Respect for Diversity
My goal is that our school library's collection is a reflection of our community and the people in it.
2.4 Literacy strategies
Building relationships, starting a new book club, and letting students read what they want instead of forcing them. Give the kids choices, and you'd be surprised at what they will do!
