Welcome to the Los Banos Jr. High marching band. This is an awarding winning program in which students not only learn to play the instruments at a higher level, but one in which the students find a place to belong!
Last year brought many struggles and meant that music was much more restricted! Now, with Covid hopefully subsiding more, we as a band are going to continue returning to form and doing what really matters to us!
This year we will learn how to:
Be better at playing and taking care of our instruments
March as a group in a parade
Play music of varying styles and cultural backgrounds
Set a level of excellence that shows our skill
And,
Build a community/family where we look out for and help uplift each other
While in the band room there is no food or drinks. The only allowed drink in the band
room is water. This is because we want to keep our band room and our instruments clean.
If you have eaten prior to playing your instrument, make sure you drink some water to
wash your mouth out; food particles can ruin instruments! GUM WILL NEVER BE
ALLOWED IN THE BAND ROOM!!!!
● The band room doors will open 5 minutes before the first bell every day. There will be a
few exceptions such as when we are doing memorization tests. When the doors are open
you are free to come into the classroom to start getting set up for rehearsal. Music will be
playing every morning up until we get started; this will either be the song we are playing
that day or some relaxing music to listen to while you get ready. The moment I turn the
music off you need to be in your seat, ready to begin class.
● There is to be no playing around in the band room. We want to make sure that all of our
equipment is safe and doesn’t need to worry about any early demise! This means that you
are NOT allowed to play on any of the percussion equipment unless you have been given
permission.
● Your lockers are for your instrument! It is not your personal storage container so make
sure that only your instrument goes in there!
● After rehearsal make sure you put away your equipment before leaving class. I will
always give you at least 5 minutes at the end of the period to do so! This means locking
up your instrument in YOUR locker and putting your music folder in its cubby. At the end
of the school day make sure to come and pick both your instrument and your music
before you leave. (How else would you practice?)
● Clothing left in the band room will be left on the table next to the door for 1 day after
being picked up. After that time has passed it will be moved to the school’s lost and
found.
● PDA (public displays of affection) is not permitted in the band room at any time. Wait
until you have left the band room!
