About Mr. Rodney

Hi everyone, My name is Mr. Rodney and I will be the teacher for both band and choir this year. I'm a young teacher that likes to bring measured fun back into the classroom. I earned my degree in music from UC Riverside.

This year my goal is to teach from an area of understanding. I fully understand how students can have numerous things going on in there lives, so I always try to take that into account when creating assignments. This goal lead me to develop the Band/ Choir motto for the year, which is "Weird with a purpose and how can we help". In my classroom, I always encourage the students to speak their minds and even give them time to do so. This is because I feel that letting the students know that they are heard is key to their success. This allows for my classroom to be more of a conversation and it allow me to incorporate your students interest into every lesson that I teach!

I also spend a large portion of my time helping out the band director over at PHS. This is not only allows me to reflect and constantly improve the way that I teach your students but also I believe that Band/ Choir shouldn't just be a two year program that starts in Jr. High and continues on to be a four year program in high school. I believe that Band/ choir should be a consistent six year program where the students can interact and help each other grow. This gives the Jr. high students something to work towards and the High School students another way to grow!
