Past Projects
May 16, 2026 – Kiwanis Los Altos Pet Parade
After several years without a Kiwanis K-Kids club, we were proud to have our K-Kids return this year by leading the 79th Los Altos Pet Parade. With nearly 50 groups participating, including many Los Altos schools, families, and community organizations, the parade was a joyful celebration of the people and pets that make our community so special. Our K-Kids enjoyed passing out the free twirl wands they made, bringing fun and smiles to children along the parade route. The K-Kids were excited to be part of this beloved tradition and to help bring our community together.
May 3, 2026 – Succulents for Nurses at El Camino Hospital
At our May K-Kids meeting, we created cheerful succulent plant arrangements using upcycled containers decorated with colorful rocks and butterfly stickers. Our members also made handmade Mother’s Day cards to accompany the gifts. We delivered the succulents and cards to nurses at El Camino Hospital as a way to show our appreciation and thank them for the care, compassion, and hard work they provide to our community every day. Through this project, our K-Kids members were able to spread kindness, brighten someone’s day, and recognize the important role nurses play in our community.
April 12, 2026 – Twirl Wands for the Los Altos Pet Parade
At our April K-Kids meeting, we created 300 colorful twirl wands for the 79th annual Los Altos Pet Parade to help spread joy and excitement throughout our community. Our members worked together to make fun and festive wands for families and attendees to enjoy during this beloved Los Altos tradition. Through this project, we were able to give back to the community, celebrate a long-standing local event, and bring smiles to everyone who attended the parade. This was a wonderful way for our K-Kids members to make a positive impact and help create happy memories for others!
Mar 8, 2026 - Gift Baskets for Police & Fire Stations
At our March K-Kids meeting, we put together appreciation gift baskets for our local Los Altos Police Department and two Los Altos fire stations. Our members also created handmade thank-you cards to show our gratitude for the officers and firefighters who work hard every day to keep our community safe. We delivered the baskets and cards to let them know how much we appreciate their service and dedication. Through this project, our K-Kids members were able to give back to the community and recognize the everyday heroes who help protect and support Los Altos. Small acts of kindness like these are a great way to show appreciation and spread positivity in our community!
Feb 1, 2026 - Handmade Flowers for Seniors at Villa Siena
At our February K-Kids meeting, we crafted beautiful handmade flowers using tissue paper and pipe cleaners. With Valentine’s Day approaching, we wanted to remind the seniors at Villa Siena that they are cherished members of our community. We personally delivered these colorful blooms, hoping to put a smile on their faces and share a little joy with them. We believe small acts of kindness can brighten someone’s day and remind them they are loved!
Jan 11, 2026 - Dog Tug Toys for Pets in Need
At our January K-Kids meeting, we turned old t-shirts into treasures by creating 60 dog tug toys for a local animal shelter called Pets In Need. Rather than letting these shirts end up in a landfill, we cut them into pieces and braided them into colorful toys for dogs. We wanted to help animals who don’t have a voice but still have feelings like loneliness or fear, and to show them a little love while they wait to be adopted. It’s another way we can make a difference, not just for people, but for our furry friends too.
Dec 7, 2025 – Holiday Candy Ornament for WeHope & Food Drive for Second Harvest
At our December K-Kids meeting, we spread holiday cheer by creating 110 candy ornaments for the annual holiday dinner at WeHope, a local non-profit that provides temporary housing and support services to families in need. The dinner brought together residents, staff, and community members which included police officers and emergency responders to celebrate the season together. In addition, K-Kids voted to conduct a food drive and collected 126 food items weighing over 90 pounds, which were donated to Second Harvest Food Bank to support families facing food insecurity. Giving back during the holidays is always especially meaningful, and we are proud to support our community in multiple ways.
Nov 2, 2025 - Donate Halloween Candy & Write Cards for the Troops
At our November K-Kids meeting, members collected 20 pounds of Halloween candy and wrote heartfelt letters of appreciation to active troops overseas. We donated the candy and cards to Troopathon, a non-profit organization that sends care packages to service members all year long. When troops are away from family and miss out on celebrations at home, even a small gift can provide comfort and connection. Our K-Kids were excited to share joy, gratitude, and a little sweetness with those who serve our country!
Oct 5, 2025 - Ronald McDonald House Activity Kits for Kids in the Hospital
At our very first K-Kids meeting, members created 36 activity kits for children at Ronald McDonald House Charities. These kits were filled with crafts, games, and books to help kids pass the time during long doctor appointments or hospital visits. Our K-Kids also made handwritten cards with uplifting messages to bring smiles and encouragement. It was a fun and meaningful way to make a difference right from the start!
