Our K-Kids Club of Los Altos is a free, student-led service group for children in grades 3–6 who live in or attend school in Los Altos. The club gives kids the chance to support their community and discover the joy of service in a fun, age-appropriate way.
Each month, K-Kids hosts a 60-minute meeting at a local community space. Students identify causes they care about, propose ideas, and vote on projects to lead. This student-driven model empowers kids as change-makers, while parents provide support in the background.
Joining K-Kids means becoming part of a community of like-minded peers who are passionate about helping others. Along the way, members learn that service isn’t only about giving back, but it’s also about building confidence, developing leadership skills, and realizing they can make a difference at any age.
What K-Kids Stands For
Our Vision: At K-Kids of Los Altos, we live by the motto “Young leaders helping others.” We imagine a community where every child grows into a caring, confident leader that's able to step up, serve others, and improve the world around them.
Our Mission: As a student-led, age-appropriate service club, we empower kids in grades 3–6 to learn, engage, serve, and lead—building character, empathy, and leadership skills through hands-on projects that benefit our school and community.
Our Values: We value leadership, service, learning, inclusiveness, and doing the right thing, even when it’s hard. Guided by these principles—and with support from Kiwanis advisors—we help our members grow into young stewards of change.
Our Pledge: “As a K-Kid, I promise to serve others and to make the world a better place for all.”
In our K-Kids Club, every child is encouraged to bring their own ideas to the table. We use the IDEA model to help guide kids through each project. That means we don't just come up with fun activities, we follow a simple four-step approach to turn those ideas into meaningful community action.
I - Identify a Need
Kids identify a cause or issue they care about in the community.
D - Develop Understanding
Together, we learn more about the issue and why it matters.
E - Execute a Plan
We create a kid-friendly action plan to address the need.
A - Aim for Impact
Finally, we carry out the plan and see the positive impact we can make.
