European art of the 1600s and early 1700s had been first dominated by the style called baroque. Baroque was grande, ornate design. Under the influence of the Enlightenment, styles began to change. Architects worked in simple, yet elegant style that is borrowed from ideas and themes from classical Greece and Rome. Music styles also changed to reflect Enlightenment ideas. The music before was dramatic and choral music, but neoclassical music transitioned to light and elegant style of of music, being called classical music.
