WHY I TEACH

Hello, my name is Jennifer Patin, and I will be teaching and directing Theatre Arts, Technical Theatre, and Professional Communications this year at Lorena High School! I am super excited to be here! I have been heavily involved in performing arts for most of my life. I started performing as a dancer at age 10.

I was bitten by the theatre bug in high school when I was cast by a wonderful theatre teacher and now my friend, Kathy Behrens. Mrs. 'B' made a huge impact in my life and changed me for the better. Her infectious joy and passion filled my soul. It is because of her that I became a teacher. She has supported me to this day through thick and thin. I strive to do the same for my students.

I am certified in theatre EC-12, Dance 8-12, and Speech 7-12. I graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in with a BA in Dance. I also hold a Master's degree in Theatre Education from the University of Houston. I have studied at the Steppenwolf Theatre and the IO Theatre in Chicago. I studied at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Globe Theatre in London. In 2019, I toured the most famous and historic theatres in the UK! Stratford-Upon-Avon was by far the most memorable experience I had in the UK. I toured Shakespeare's childhood home as well as the church where he was baptized and is buried. I was so moved that I cried. I got to see the Taming of the Shrew at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. This was super cool for me, because I was in the Taming of the Shrew my senior year of HS. We made it to Region that year! I have seen more professional theatre productions than I can count! I think that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was my FAVORITE! I plan to study theatre in NYC in January as well as next summer. I am undeniably a life-long learner. I have SO much I want to share with my students! It is going to be a great year! Theatre will change your life for the better. I promise.
