Phone in the caddy.
Leave backpack in the assigned place.
Sit in a circle at the center of the room. Sometimes, we will use tables with chairs for our work together.
Turn in assignments on time.
What you can expect from me:
· I will plan the course and alter that plan as needed. I believe the best curriculum comes from the student. That means that we will take advantage of unforeseen events that capture our interest, and then juggle the class topics as necessary.
· Give you time to self reflect in addition to my feedback.
· Bring my expertise to the classroom. This includes many years of formal study, professional experience and development, and stories from real life. (You, too, are encouraged to bring stories to class to stimulate discussion.)
· I will be patient when you are struggling with concepts. I promise to help each student do their very best.
· Provide clarity when the struggle gets too strong.
· I will be open about options. If you have ideas, please share them with me!
· I will treat you as young adult learners with respect.
· I will provide clear lesson goals and explain grading rubrics so that expectations are clear.
I will be KIND.
· Arrive on time ready to work and play every day.
· Be willing to take risks and participate fully at all times.
· Support each other fully in the work.
· Leave baggage at the door. AKA “Kiss the door”.
· Communicate with me before or after class if you have concerns, difficulties, or if I can help you with anything.
· Submit your best work on time, deadlines are important.
· Be responsible for the energy you bring into the space every day.
· Have an open heart and open mind.
· I expect all my students to have the utmost respect for props, costumes, set pieces, sound equipment, and light equipment at all times! Props, costumes, and set pieces are not to be taken from the classroom or played with. We NEED these things and do not have the time or money to acquire replacements. Sound and lighting equipment is very expensive! Please, Please, Please do not touch unless you have my permission!
· Most importantly, students will be expected to show respect for each other. We are in this together. The more support you give to one another, the better our play, scenes, and projects will be!
· I expect your very best effort and concentration until the last performance, set strike, and clean up are done.
· If you try your very best to do all of these things, you will ROCK this class!
Please don’t hesitate to email, call, or set up a conference time with me if you have any questions. This is going to be an exciting, fun year! Theatre will change your life for the better! I promise! I believe in your potential! I’m so thankful to be your teacher!
