WHY I

TEACH

I became a teacher because of two adults who invested in my life twenty years ago. As a teenager, ever wonder what it would be like to sit on top of a phone book for Driver’s Ed? Or to ask out girls who had a voice pitched as high as yours? As a shy “late bloomer”, I believed I had nothing to offer … and nobody who cared.

My life changed because a high school teacher and college professor that welcomed me into their classrooms each and every day, allowed me the opportunities to bond with my classmates in project-based learning, opened up my mind to an exciting creative world, and above all else – believed in me.

That is precisely what I strive to do in my career as an educator. I want each student to find "their voice", apply creative problem solving and experience empathy with others. I believe each student - no matter how they are defined economically, socially, racially, sexually or intellectually - deserves the opportunity to succeed in life and become a part of the family that exists in my classroom. I commit to each student to be there for them and not give up; that we will each be in the trenches together.
