Placement Test Update!!!

The process for skipping Integrated Math 1 and beginning in Integrated Math 2 no longer requires a test. The parent/guardian and student just need to complete the steps explained here. Basically, a waiver needs to be signed and a report card with her 8th grade math grade on it needs to be returned to Mrs. Silva (dsilva@puhsd.k12.ca.us). The student also needs to complete the Integrated Math 1 Final (which is found on that same website) and then grade it (this is also scanned and submitted to Mrs. Silva). We highly recommend a score of at least 80% on it. A student who is planning to skip Integrated Math 1, must be very comfortable with ALL the topics that are on that test to be successful in future math classes. With all the learning loss that has occurred over the past two years we are strongly encouraging kids to not skip a class, but rather double up, just to make sure the foundational concepts are rock solid. That being said, if that student has a strong grasp and understanding of the concepts then I would encourage her to complete the test and the other requirements.

The recommended placement for all incoming Freshman is Integrated Math 1, especially with the disruption in learning that has occurred over the past year and a half. If your child is currently enrolled in an Integrated Math 1 class and would like to begin in Integrated Math 2, please continue reading and do the following:

The student MUST complete the Integrated Math 1 Final on their own to demonstrate he/she knows the concepts that were learned in an Integrated Math 1 class. The time limit for this test is 2 hours. Once the student has completed the final, please grade the test with a red pen and put the score at the top. If he/she cannot complete the final on their own and/or does NOT score at least a 70% on it, then the recommendation is that they do NOT skip Integrated Math 1.
