Characteristics of Effective Learning
The Characteristics of Effective Learning are the ways in which a child learns.
Creating and Thinking Critically – Thinking
Having their own ideas
Making links
Choosing ways to do things
Active Learning – Motivation
Being involved and concentrating
Keeping trying
Enjoying achieving what they set out to do
Playing and Exploring – Engagement
Finding out and exploring
Playing with what they know
Being willing to ‘have a go’
Together, these underpin learning and development across all areas and support children to be effective and motivated learners.
We use the Characteristics of Effective Learning to plan the Nursery environment and activities in order to extend the children’s learning through play.
In Nursery, we link the Characteristics of Effective Learning with these stories, to promote a love of books and help the children relate their learning to familiar characters.
