Spanish I students develop an introductory level of proficiency in the four language skill areas. Listening and speaking skills are enhanced through audio and video sources. Reading and writing skills are developed through culturally relevant readings and open-ended prompts. Grammar and vocabulary themes are covered through the use of the online student text, online practice and in class activities, which include both speaking and writing activities. Spanish I work centers around the themes of daily life at home and in the classroom, family, professions, sports and leisure activities, and travel and shopping. Language awareness is heightened as the similarities and differences between Spanish and English are studied. The target language is used in class daily.
