Enrichment Days

There are 6 Enrichment days that take place at Long Field Spencer Academy each academic year. Whilst this offers students a huge range of unique and diverse opporunities, the events that are run by and specifically relate to the science curriculum can be found here:

Magna

Our trip to Magna Science Adventure Centre is for Year 7 students. They will spend the day exploring interactive exhibits and to help facilitate learning through investigation and play. Not only does this link to the investigative skills and critical thinking aspects of the science curriculum, but also will provide lots of exciting moments for students with interests in engineering, technology and design.

thinktank

Year 8 students will have the opportunity to visit Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum. Whilst there, students will have the opportunity to explore amazing exhibits, such as the Planetarium and the Wildlife and Marine Worlds. This is a brilliant opportunity to develop knowledge that is a pivotal part of the science curriculum, such as space physics, forces & motion, and biodiveristy.

twycross zoo

Twycross Zoo is a trip for Year 7, 8 and 9 students, where students can see over 80 species of animals up close. Students will be able to see first-hand concepts that they will cover in their Science lessons, such as feeding relationships, conservation and animal adaptations. Twycross Zoo is home to over 400 different animals, including Tigers, Rhinos, Leopards, Snakes and several species of Apes.

escape room

Year 11 are given the opportunity to participate in a series of Escape Rooms at ClueHQ in Birmingham. The escape rooms encourage the development of a range of transferable skills including social skills, problem-solving, resilience, lateral thinking, time management, engagement and leadership. Escape rooms offer opportunities for students to work in groups, improve their resilience, and think creatively. There is also potential for subject-specific learning including Science, Geography and History themes escape rooms.

required practical day

Year 11 students will spend the day carrying out a number of the required practical’s they are expected to cover for their upcoming GCSE exams. This not only includes getting stuck in and performing the practical’s themselves across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, but also looking at any associated theory, analysis and results in order to improve their investigative skills and best prepare them for their exams.
