Year 11 revision sessions run on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
At Long Field Spencer Academy, our Computing department are passionate about their subject and provide students with a variety of opportunities and experiences, with a focus for preparing them for GCSE, A-Level and beyond. We focus on all students developing a love of learning for the subject and encourage students to ask questions, whilst teaching them problem solving skills. Built into the program of study, we provide students with regular opportunities to retrieve previous knowledge and make links with prior KS3 and KS4 topics. We strongly believe that a comprehensive understanding of Computing principles and problem solving techniques are invaluable in our ever changing digital world.
Students in Key Stage 3 study for 1 hour per week, learning about the components of a computer system, network security and develop their programming skills through Scratch and Python. At Key Stage 4, students learn about the architecture and performance of the CPU, embedded systems, networks and protocols, network threats, operating systems, utility software, computational thinking, programming as well as considering the legal and ethical issues surrounding the use of computer systems such as drones and self-driving cars. The curriculum enables students to gain an in-depth understanding of computing principles, whilst enabling their to study Computing at KS5 and University.
