The Blue & Purple Star Lancers
April: "Purple-Up" Month
April is an important month for the Blue and Purple Star Lancers. Beginning in 1986, Secretary of State Casper Weinberger established April as the month of the military child to recognize youth who have a parent, sibling, or step-parent serving in our military. Across the nation each April, communities pay tribute to military families with Purple-Up! events. Why purple? Blend the green of the Army with the red of the Marines and finish with the blue of the Coast Guard, Air Force and Navy and you get PURPLE!
Purple-Up!
Purple Ribbon Campaign
Throughout the week of April 8 - 12, 2024, we'll hand out purple ribbons and ask for a "spare change" donation in return. All profits from this campaign will support our activities throughout year such as:
maintaining the Lancer Military Memorial Garden (located just off the main lobby for LHS)
honoring our veterans on staff and in the community with a Veterans Day ceremony, cards, and gift baskets/bags
recognizing Military Family Appreciation Month in November
sending "care packages" to members of our Lancer family who are actively serving in the military
participating in national Purple-Up! month , a nationwide campaign aimed at raising awareness of the challenges a military child faces
identifying, preparing, presenting, and honoring seniors entering military service or a military academy or ROTC program with "Blue Star Bundles" (commemorative "care packages") presented at the spring pep rally
conducting a Memorial Day Ceremony in the Lancer Military Memorial Garden.
Raise Awareness & Show Support
Throughout April, we'll participate in Purple-Up! Month , a nationwide campaign aimed at raising awareness of the challenges a military child faces. To accomplish this goal, we will:
Ask all of Lancer Nation to wear purple to show our military kids and their families just how much we care about them! (Friday, April 12, 2024)
Honor Purple Star Lancers - current and new Purple Stars- at the Spring Pep Rally (Friday, April 19, 2024).
Honor seniors entering military service/military academy/ROTC program with "Blue Star Bundles" (commemorative "care packages") presented at the Spring Pep Rally (Friday, April 19, 2024).
