The IB describes this attribute as (a) a way of approaching uncertainty with forethought and determination; (b) challenging ways of thinking and exploring new ideas and innovative strategies; and (c) being resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change. This attribute requires people to step out of their comfort zone.
Note: the IB recognises that the term risk taker can have negative connotations associated with poor decision-making and inappropriate use of caution. It can also imply an individualistic approach to life. Therefore the IB allows schools to substitute this attribute with 'courageous' and its associated concept of being resilient.
