WHAT IS CJSF?
California Junior Scholastic Federation (CJSF) is a statewide academic honors organization of over 600 chapters with a mission to foster high standards of scholarship, service, and citizenship in the students of California's public, private, or charter high schools and middle schools.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?
CJSF is open to 7th and 8th grade students who meet the academic and citizenship requirements. 8th graders may apply during the Fall or Spring Semesters. Seventh graders are only eligible to apply during the Spring semester of 7th grade based on 7th grade FALL semester Quarter grades.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CJSF MEMBERSHIP?
CJSF prepares the student to continue with their CSF membership in high school. Membership offers the opportunities to participate in activities which benefit the school, the community, and the student. It is a great way to start building your future college application by being a member of a statewide program.
DO YOU ACCEPT LATE APPLICATIONS?
Unfortunately, no. In the bylaws established by the state organization of CJSF, it specifically states that late applications may not be accepted. Chapters that do so can lose their membership. Submitting applications on time is part of being in CJSF. Please plan ahead and stay informed!
CJSF MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
In order for students to gain membership for a semester, students must...
Complete the Christa McAuliffe Middle School CJSF application.
Include your membership donation of $5 (cash or check)
Students must reapply each semester and meet the requirements outlined below each time a student applies. Membership is neither compulsory nor automatic. Eligibility is based on two components: ACADEMICS and CITIZENSHIP
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENT:
Within the semester a student is applying for...
Students must earn twenty CJSF points during each semester
CJSF points are not given for P.E. or TA
Students cannot earn a "D" or FAIL in ANY CLASS, it disqualifies you for the whole semester
Points are calculated as follows:
Grade of "A" = 3 points
Grade of "B" = 1 point
Grade of "C" = 0 points
Note: Add 1 extra point per quarter for a PreAP class or in Math 7/8 or Integrated Math 1! Two extra points allowed per semester (one per quarter)!
How do I pay the fee?
You can pay the fee using cash or check. Please make checks payable to "Christa McAuliffe CJSF". You can either come to the school or send this by mail.
What if I only qualified for one semester last year?
Students need three semesters to be a CJSF Honor Award member. They can still qualify during the two semesters of the 2020/2021 school year which will make them eligible for the CJSF Honor Medal.
What if I want to sign up but can't afford the fee?
We cannot refuse any student membership because of their inability to pay. Simply check the "fee waiver" box on the CJSF application.
What if I have other questions?
