SDG Goal 11 aims to create inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities. My area of focus was on Goal 11.6, which sought to reduce the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities, paying special attention to air quality and waste management by 2030. This goal was particularly relevant for congested cities where air quality and water management were significant concerns.
I was specifically interested in the air quality sector of Dhaka City in Bangladesh, as per Target No. 11.6.2, which aimed to measure the annual mean levels of fine particulate matter, such as PM2.5 and PM10, in cities with a population-weighted approach. To achieve this, my proposed project involved extracting Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) and Particulate Matter (PM2.5) data from Landsat Images using Simplified Aerosol Retrieval Algorithm (SARA) and identifying the extent of vulnerable population using Dasymetric Method. The proposed project was titled "Measuring Atmospheric Particulate Matter (PM2.5) Over Urban Mixed Surface and Estimation of Vulnerable Population Density Using Landsat Images in Dhaka City".
