September 25, 2024 - The pursuit of gender equality is an essential pillar in the development of inclusive and progressive academic institutions. In line with this, the university seeks to reinforce its commitment to Gender and Development (GAD) the activity titled #GADisUS. Participated by GAD advocates, the GAD team joined the LNU Organization Fair. This initiative is designed to deepen understanding, promote awareness, and strengthen the implementation of GAD principles across the university community.
October 15-16, 2024 - Dr. Gerry P. Nicol, GAD Director, and Mrs. Cherilyn E. Pido, University Budget Officer, recently attended a Visayas-wide seminar in Cebu City focused on the updated guidelines for the Gender and Development (GAD) Plan and Budget. The seminar provided essential insights into the latest policies for effectively structuring and allocating budgets to promote gender equality initiatives within institutions. Their participation aims to ensure that their university's GAD plans are aligned with current standards, enhancing the institution's commitment to gender-responsive programs and initiatives across the Visayas region.
April 2024 - The Gender and Development Secretariat is actively working on accreditation and ISO certification documentation, underscoring its dedication to quality and operational excellence. This meticulous preparation aligns with the Secretariat's commitment to gender equality and empowerment, aiming to strengthen its programs through a recognized, standards-based approach. Achieving these certifications will mark a significant step in enhancing the Secretariat’s efficiency and accountability, reinforcing its role in fostering inclusive, high-impact initiatives.
Leyte Normal University (LNU) community proudly wore purple dresses, shirts, and others to kick off Women's Month on March 5, 2024, marking the commencement of a month-long celebration honoring women's achievements and the ongoing fight for gender equality.
Additionally, Normalistas participated in the purple ribbon pinning ceremony at the LNU HRDC Multipurpose Hall on Monday, March 4.
To keep the spirit of the celebration, LNU launched "Purple Day Wednesday," where everyone wore something purple every Wednesday throughout the month as a visual show of support for women's rights and recognition of women's contributions to society.
These events at LNU echoed the national directives of Presidential Proclamation No. 224 and 227 series of 1988 that designated the first week of March as Women's Week and Women's Role in History Month.
