Mrs. Zschunke grew up in Horsham, Pennsylvania and attended neighboring Hatboro-Horsham High School. She went on to college at Shippensburg University. While at Shippensburg, she majored in Elementary Education and minored in Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Z. student taught in Mechanicsburg, PA in Cumberland Valley School District. While there, she taught 1st and 2nd grade in Sporting Hill Elementary School. She also student taught 5th grade in South Hamilton Elementary School in Chambersburg Area School District in Chambersburg, PA. Both experiences were enriching to Mrs. Zschunke's teaching background.
After college, Mrs. Zschunke coached diving for both age group teams and Hatboro-Horsham High School and she still does. In the summer, Mrs. Zschunke coaches diving at Hideaway Swim Club. Mrs. Zschunke was a one on one autistic support assistant at Simmons Elementary School in Hatboro-Horsham School District. Mrs. Zschunke further pursued an interest in autistic support as a home care therapy provider of ABA direct services. In the Spring of 2004, Mrs. Zschunke became the interim director of operations at The Goddard School in Horsham.
Over the summer, she was introduced to Lower Moreland Township School District and accepted the opportunity to teach Kindergarten at Pine Road Elementary School. After one year of kindergarten, Mrs. Zschunke had the opportunity to loop with her first class into first grade. It was a wonderful experience and one that she will never forget. Mrs. Zschunke was married over the summer after that first year of first grade.
In the spring of 2007, Mrs. Zschunke received her Masters in Reading from Gwynedd Mercy University and Reading Specialist certification. She is also certified as a Library Media Specialist after taking courses at Arcadia University. In the winter of 2009, Mrs. Zschunke was nominated and completed the steps to become a Keystone Tech Integrator. Mrs. Zschunke has served as lead teacher of science; library and technology and currently social studies at Pine Road.
Mr. and Mrs. Zschunke welcomed a daughter, Cecelia, to the family on July 14, 2009 and and a son, Elliot on June 17, 2013 - the last day of school!
In the fall of 2010, Mrs. Zschunke began as the K-5 School Library Media Specialist and as one of the coordinators of our school's brand new TV Studio. Mrs. Zschunke is excited to teach and learn in our school's library and TV Studio along with ALL the students of Pine Road School. In the spring of 2012, Mrs. Zschunke received the Lion's Pride Award from the Lower Moreland Township School Board.
Mrs. Zschunke has presented at professional conferences in Pennsylvania and out of state, including: PETE&C; PSLA; MASL; KidLitCon; and Common Ground. She has also been a nonfiction panelist for the CYBILS awards since 2012. In spring of 2019, Mrs. Zschunke was recognized as the librarian candidate for the Unsung Hero award from PSEA Mideast Region's Council for the Advancement of Public Schools.
