Here at Pine Road, SEL is taking place in so many different ways each and every day:
Individually
Teacher/student conversations during "teachable moments"
Restorative conferences, facilitated by staff member, to address peer conflicts
Small Groups
Lunches with the a teacher, school counselor, or administrator
Small group sessions with the school counselor or student support counselor that are focused on building self-awareness and learning/practicing emotional regulation strategies, skills for learning (executive functioning), and/or positive peer interactions.
Whole Class
Class Huddles - These happen during Lions Time on C Day once or twice a month and use a 'class meeting' model build classroom community and plan for upcoming events. These can also be responsive in nature and take place whenever needed to solve problems within the classroom or address an ongoing classroom dynamic.
Skill building and character education classroom lessons facilitated by the school counselor
Second Step curriculum classroom lessons facilitated by the classroom teacher, typically two times a month
