Beginers Guide to Drawing faces in Proportion

You can use this slide show to help you remember how to use proportions when you draw a face.

Want to draw a realistic portrait?

Fifth graders can help you with that!

Fifth graders have been learning about how to draw faces in portion.

Proportions in Art- Rules that help you figure out the size and placement of something compared other parts of a whole.

When we are talking about a portrait the WHOLE is our face, we can figure out where parts of our face go and how big they should be by following these proportion rules.

Expressive Portraits?

Fifth grade also talked about ways we can create a self portrait WITHOUT being realistic.

Sometimes we can learn more about a person from an abstract (different from real life) portrait then we can from one that is realistic. Look carefully at the artworks on the carousel to the right what do you think these portraits are trying to say? Share what you noticed with your grown ups at home.

Try out these fun and simple interactive line drawings, see if you can try and make virtual drawings that show different moods.

I made this silly- but expressive- portrait on this Picasso portrait generator. :)
