I feel so privileged to be teaching Art to such amazing young minds.
I graduated from Tyler school of Art, Temple University in 2013 with a BFA in Art Education and Printmaking and completed my Masters in Art Education with an Emphasis in Inclusive Practices at Moore College of art and Design in 2022.
With a strong belief that art is for everyone, I strive to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for my young students in hopes of instilling positive views of self and leaving students with the tools needed to think carefully, express themselves and overcome or reimagine personal challenges.
There is no such thing as being BAD at art.
Growing up as a student with a disability, I have experienced both disheartening and empowering ways teachers can influence students' ability to succeed. This has strongly influenced my teaching and views on artmaking. I believe that art is for everyone, no matter our own perceived skill, physical limitations, or any other obstacle. There is limitless styles and ways to create art, with effort and an open mind, everyone can succeed in the arts.
As a teacher of the visual arts my responsibility is to help students find the drive within themselves to create, evaluate, and imagine a world that has no limits. It is my understanding that an art teacher is one who guides others to find themselves, bringing in the structure of technique, art history, and class discussion to inspire students to create meaningful works. I strive to promote acceptance and appreciation of a variety of types of cultures/lifestyles and art practices while promoting individual self-discovery.
The ability to express and create is a powerful thing, as Albert Einstein once said: “Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”
