Books

1. Use the library catalog to locate books that contain information about your research question.
2. You must spell correctly when using this program.
3. To find many results, search a broad topic such as - sports. To get more specific results search using keywords grouped together with '+', 'and', 'or'. Sports and hockey. They are called a Boolean Operators, which can also be applied searching in the databases.
4. You can also locate books that are at the Huntingdon Valley library, or online using Google Books.

Databases

1. You can access the databases online at school, or at home with a password.
2. Use the Database tab to locate databases by company. Use the Subjects tab to locate databases by subject topic.
3. Watch part 2 of using Boolean Operators, as they will help narrow your search results and find you the specific information you are seeking in the database. Check out the McMaster University Cheat Sheet.

Articles

1. In addition to the databases, Google Scholar is a great tool to locate scholarly work. Be sure to use the CRAAP Test to assess accuracy.
2. Evaluate an article or journal accuracy.
3. Be on the look out for these terms.
   1. Index - an article's citation
   2. Abstract - an article's citation as well as a summary of the text
   3. Full-text - the full article in its entirety
   4. World Libraries: The Library of Congress
   5. American Memory: The Library of Congress

Video

1. In our Media page you will find great databases and links to video content.
2. Use news websites for current video information.
3. YouTube is a great resource for video content, however, just like websites anyone can post anything. Stop and think before you use a YouTube video in your research.
4. The News subject section is a great place to look for current events video.

11. Be aware of Creative Commons photo use. More often than not a photo is free to use but you still need to give credit, or it needs to be modified. Use this cheat sheet to make sure the photo you are planning on using is 'free to use'.
