Toxic Reality

Smog plagued the city with its devious hand.

Grabbing on, consuming the once fresh waters, the once fresh plains

They seemed like foreign words,

only within fairytales

only in the deepest depths of my dreams

So far away when my hand reached out it vanished between my fingers

If only there was a way to prevent it.

Vacant cities slowly became consumed by vines

Creeping up the sides of skyscrapers, signs, uninhabited cars and homes

As nature took back the world that was once theirs

If only there was a way to prevent it.

Heat melted away any glimpse of existence

Targeting life

Targeting the offender

The offender that polluted the world with its chemicals

That tormented the irreproachable victims

If only there was a way to prevent it.

Now, Greedy industries play polluted pranks

Disregarding the effects of their humorous games

For one I am to blame

For burning and ejecting toxins

If only there was a way to prevent it

Life itself doesn’t have to be torn up

Will there be a change?

A change in mindset, leadership, accountability

Will earth day mean more than a poster?

Mean more than a simple gesture

A simple day

A simple thought

We look to you to preserve the earth we have today

To treasure it and appreciate it

Will you find a way to prevent it?
