Does a referral to IST mean my child is having difficulty in the school setting?
A referral to IST is a way to seek support from colleagues to help identify a school-based need and put practical interventions into place to support the student's progress in school.
Will my child miss class because of IST?
No! IST interventions are often put into place in the child's regular education room. If supports are needed elsewhere, this will usually take place during the WIN period when the student's peers are also receiving various school-based supports. No new instruction will be missed for IST support.
Does IST mean my child needs special education?
No! IST is a proactive and preventative measure to reduce the likelihood of the need for specially designed instruction.
