Listen & Sketch: A GLAD Strategy

Listen Sketch is a strategy that helps promote reading comprehension and at the same time, reduce stress, help motivate, and enhance self-confidence in all students, also known as the "Affective Filter."

What is it? Well, it's what the title suggests: You listen to a text - You Sketch what your hear - And sometimes, you write about what you Sketched.

1. Depending on student levels, reader reads a section of a text or and up to a chapter of a particular text.

2. Students either listen attentively while reader reads and visualize, then sketch after the reading or visualizes and sketches as the reader reads. The latter works best for older students.

3. After time has been allowed for sketching, student should articulate what they have read either by sharing orally or by writing about what they sketched.

4. The accumulation of sketches, especially on an ongoing text or topic, can be use to promote further writing activities, thus compositions.
