About University of Lucknow
Established on November 25, 1920, University of Lucknow is one of the oldest and largest state universities in Uttar Pradesh. It is a teaching, residential, and affiliating university, organized into 13 faculties, 52 departments, 16 institutes & centers, and over 550 affiliated colleges across five districts. It is accredited A++ by NAAC and is recognized by UGC as Category 1 University. The main campus is spread over an area of 147 acres and has a second campus covering 76 acres.
About Department of Mathematics & Astronomy
The Department of Mathematics and Astronomy came into existence in 1921, when the then Canning College was taken over by the newly constituted Lucknow University. As a unit for conducting teaching and research, it has acquitted itself creditably during this period of over a century. On the teaching side, instruction is being imparted to the UG and PG level students. The UG courses have undergone significant changes as per the NEP 2020 and form a useful combination of the essentials of the pure and applied mathematics with emphasis on modern approach. The PG courses offer a wide range of specialization in many branches of pure and applied mathematics. Facilities exist for advanced work in several modern areas of mathematics which include algebra, analysis, geometry and mechanics. Presently, the department has positions of twenty-five faculty members.
About IMS
The Indian Mathematical Society is a non-profit organization devoted to the promotion of Mathematics Education and Research. Its central activity is to inspire and encourage researchers, students and all the mathematics-loving persons. It started publishing a periodical ‘Progress Reports’ right from its inception, which in the year 1910 turned into The Journal of the Indian Mathematical Society. It may be worth mentioning that the greatest Indian mathematician of our time, Srinivasa Ramanujan published many of his works in the Journal of the Indian Mathematical Society. The IMS organizes Annual Conferences to encourage young researchers to present their works and interact with the experts. Currently, IMS has more than 4600 life members.
