Utilize YOUR network.
Most people like to show others that they are independent and can do things on their own.
But if one of your contacts can help save you time by connecting you with someone or directing you to a certain path... why would you deny yourself that advantage?
Life has enough road blocks & detours along the way. Use someone's map to take a couple of straight paths to get where you're going.
Then when you get there, you can say thank you to them. But still know that YOU did the legwork to get to your destination on your own.
Win. Win.
...unless you don't like to win.
Join Groups & Forums for your desired industry.
Everyone had to start somewhere. So, join a group/forum and...
LISTEN/READ/ OBSERVE the topics of discussions,
LEARN the vocabulary, and WATCH the trends.
I know that it's difficult to be sitting quietly on the side of the road watching "everyone" else pass you by. But until you REALLY understand the rules and twists and turns of the road, you could be driving around in circles.
I always carpool because it makes the trip more interesting and getting there together is more fun.

Homework NEVER ends.
Once the tassel hits the other side of your graduation cap, you may think that...
You never have to read/write a billion-page paper (WITH 800 kajillion sources) again!
You'll never need to cram hundreds of chapters of "useless" information to just spit it out (and forget it) the next morning anymore.
You'll never have to open/create a PowerPoint presentation and spend hours on the perfect transition or animation anymore!
Umm... let me know when Life introduces you to:
RFP (aka Business proposals) & Research/ROI charts & reports, Brainstorming/Think Tank sessions, and Pitch meetings.
Find a Mentor.
When you believe that you found the BEST coffee spot or boba place, you can't wait to share the info with your friends.
The same idea can be said for mentors. When professionals have achieved their goals or dreams, they want to share their stories of triumph (and hardships) with those around them.
Be one of those people.
Have that conversation with someone at least once a month.
For just one coffee, lunch, cocktail or dinner... once a month... you'll receive the insight from someone that has/had the career that you want... and the life that you're working hard to achieve.

The new year has brought the salary transparency law into effect.
A company with 15 employees or more will now publish the salary range for their posted job opening(s).
We suggest still doing your own research to narrow down their posted range... but at least you know the ballpark.
We came across this list when doing our weekly research.
Although there's no listed published date, considering the source... AND looking over the salary estimates... the list is pretty solid.
Now if you'll excuse us, we're going to re-read this article (and update our own resumes).
Happy hunting!
It may have been published back in October of 2018, but the tips are still relevant in today's climate.
Judge for yourself off of the excerpt from the beginning of the article...
"In a difficult job market, you may have a tough time finding a job. Whether you've just graduated, were recently laid off, or you are ready to change jobs, looking for a new job – or being unemployed – can be difficult.
But it's important to keep things in perspective as you continue your job hunt. Read on for our top tips on how to deal with being unemployed."
Spending most of your job-search time on job boards is an addictive, time suck spiral. And this is how it starts: The enticing idea of sending your credentials online to instantly receive an interview appeals to your sense of wanting immediate gratification, and comes with a low risk of direct rejection. But what ends up happening for most people is a slow, draining process of rejection-less rejection. Instead of being told "no,” you're told nothing. Or you receive "thanks but no thanks” emails that come seconds after you submit your applications and that a human didn't write. Typically, anything that's “Insta-Easy” to apply to is going to have hundreds, if not thousands, of people applying, and these days you may not even get human eyeballs on your application.
That’s why it’s important to look for open jobs outside job boards. And jobs outside job boards they do exist ... in abundance.
Graduation season is upon us and that means there will (hopefully) be a number of envelopes... with greeting cards... AND cold hard cash (or a check - thanks grandma). The gut reaction to spend it on a week-long vacation to Mexico, or even a shopping spree to replace your worn out sweats (and a new set of ear pods because you misplaced your other ones during finals),...
Well, I know this will sound old-fashioned, but... have you thought about putting a portion of your graduation money in the bank?
Read through the article on Forbes.com by Asia Martin, a Forbes.com Advisor, before giving me that "hard pass".
While a recent survey shows that millennials believe that they're going to be rich at a relatively young age, other statistics show just the opposite is true: the cohort that grew up with the internet revolution and came of age during the financial crisis is doing worse than other generations were at their age. The Economist notes that millennials are also not generating enough wealth to retire comfortably.
