From LJ taking the stage and conducting the first workshop, she broke down the:
8 Things You Need to Complete BEFORE Leaving College
Deconstructing LinkedIn
Steps To Choose Your Career Path
...followed by an 8-member panel of professionals addressing questions like:
Financing Life After College
The Truth About Internships
THEN, LJ came back after lunch and gave her 2 much anticipated presentations of:
The Lifecycle of a Job Post
Unraveling the 7-Second Resume Scan
LJ covered so much information that it was easy to come up with questions for the 7 panelist panel that followed her.
THEN, everyone hung around and networked!!!
#CantWaitForTheNextOne
It is a one-day seminar whose mission is to provide information and guidance to college students and recent graduates as they transition from student to a working member of the society.
Through workshops taught by LJ Raang (a career coach and international speaker on business strategy and the underrated importance of internship programs, as well as featured by BuzzFeed for one of her unique HR skills), attendees are presented with details about the current job landscape and advice on how to best navigate through it while avoiding the common mistakes (most graduates and job seekers make). In addition, LJ pulls examples from her past/current client files and stories from fellow HR/Recruiter colleagues to further illustrate and explain her recommendations.
Additionally, different panels filled with professionals from different industries are peppered throughout the day as well as a robust networking session to close out the day.
"L J R" may stand for "Let's Just Remember"... but when LJ came up with the seminar, it stood for "Listen. Join. React."
Listen...
to the market, the trends, and the people so that the information and topics are authentic and relevant.
Join...
in the conversation and the community of like minds. Don't be a quiet bystander.
React...
whether it be learning something new and doing your own research about it.
Or meeting someone new and cultivating that relationship.
Or recognizing that you don't know the answer, but know someone that might be able to help.
The seminar was built to be mutually beneficial.
The attendees learn from those that lived and survived the transition and are given the opportunity to ask questions that are important to them.
The panelists/speakers recognize how far they've come and are given the opportunity to help those that are following in their footsteps
It is never too early to plan for the next one!
As we brainstorm about next year's event (i.e. topics & speakers/panelists), we want to hear from you.
For example...
What time of the year is the best time to hold this event?
On what topic should we focus and really address?
What industry do you want to see represented on the panel?
...if you don't tell us, how will we know what you want to see?
Every professional has a story about the challenges they had to overcome to get to where they are.
Some stories are not pretty... and others are not yet complete.
Either way, there are lessons that you learned that were never taught in college.
Do you see new employees repeating your same past mistakes (and adding more tasks on your already full plate)?
Are you willing to share your story and give advice to those following in your footsteps?
If so, we'd LOVE to hear from you.
We introduce you only by your FIRST NAME and INDUSTRY (in which you work).
For the past few years, many people and companies that have been supporting LJ and this seminar through volunteering, mentoring and donations (i.e. supplies, equipment, sample products, promotional items and/or money).
Their reasons include:
Having a family member/friend (or even themselves) go through the same feeling of being overwhelmed and lost in choosing a direction [in life].
Believing in the mission and seeing the positive impact the seminar has on its attendees - and in a case last year, hire directly from it.
For those and countless other reasons, we are able to continue to help guide the next generation's emerging workforce.
