Dear LPS Community,
Welcome to STEM Education, powered by Project Lead the Way (PLTW), in Livonia Public Schools. This is our third year as a department in LPS. All elementary students will begin embarking on their STEM journey starting with our youngest learners in Young 5s. LPS has invested heavily in developing a pathway for students to engage in a meaningful STEM education from grades Pre K-12. Our program, materials, teachers, and many classroom spaces are reflective of the district's on-going commitment toward this component in student learning.
Our department, supervised by Ms. Jennifer Keatts, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Programs and Instructional Services, is composed of 14 teachers certified by Project Lead the Way in delivering its STEM curriculum to students. Most of the teachers in our department are highly regarded veteran (20-plus years experience) educators, but all of us have a passion for hands-on and project-based learning. We believe that it is our mission to develop learners who are excellent problem solvers and critical thinkers using science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as a vehicle. Please take an opportunity to browse our "STEM Educators" page and read the brief biographies to learn more about who we are as teachers.
This site has been created as a communications tool for the LPS community to learn about the PLTW program, our department, and our teachers. We invite you to browse to become informed about this program and the lessons students will be learning each week in their PLTW classes. We also invite you to engage your students in conversations, using the provided "talking points," to learn about their experiences each week. We are truly excited to help all LPS kids embark upon the STEM pathway.
Over the coming months we look forward to opportunities to showcase student learning to each school community. In the meantime, however, should you have any questions, please contact your child's STEM Education teacher, and he or she will gladly assist.
Have a wonderful school year!
The LPS Elementary PLTW Team
