From the PLTW website...
"Project Lead The Way provides transformative learning experiences for Pre K-12 students and teachers across the U.S. We create an engaging, hands-on classroom environment and empower students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills they need to thrive. Our professional development for teachers provides training, resources, and support to engage students in real-world learning.
Our pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science engage students in hands-on activities, projects, and problems; empower them to solve real-world challenges; and inspire them to reimagine how they see themselves."
Project Lead The Way is a specials course offering that each child will visit for one hour each week. In this class, teachers will use curriculum and materials developed by Project Lead the Way. The K-6 program being used in LPS is called PLTW-Launch. In this program, students will complete activities, solve problems, and engage in project-based learning in the following areas.

Have you ever wondered why Art, Music, PE, Library-Media Center, and, now PLTW, are called "Specials" or "Specials Classes?" The name's origin can be best described through the experiences of a retired LPS teacher who saw the development of Specials Classes many years ago. Prior to the creation of Specials Classes many, many years ago, Art, Music, and PE were taught by the classroom teacher. There was wisdom in the idea that these courses should be taught by a person who specializes in these areas, hence the creation of "Specials." Each day, our elementary students have daily experiences meeting with specialized teachers in Art, Music, Media, Physical Education, and Project Lead the Way. During this time, those "Special-Area Teachers" give students an opportunity for a deeper dive into those subjects with an expert in that field of study.
