On the fence? Read below!
Learning a band instrument is a lifelong skill that allows students to express themselves through music. Students in band are part of a team and family where no student is simply a “benchwarmer.” Students will immediately be surrounded by new friends and a family, making the transition into junior high EASY! Studies show that students who are involved in music also do well academically, but most important of all, being in band is pure fun!
Some considerations:
No experience is necessary.
Even if you have no prior musical experience, we'll teach you everything you need to know!
Instruments are easy to find.
There are many music stores in our area, and all of them offer great rental programs with very low monthly costs ($25-$35 dollars a month). All music stores also have used instruments at extremely affordable prices. If finding an instrument is the only thing holding you and your child back, please contact me. I will do everything I can to help!
Band does not interfere with sports.
Our students are some of the most involved on campus! Don't let your other activities deter you- we'll make it work!
Music will change your life!
Being involved with music teaches hard work, self-discipline, persistence, determination, creativity, social skills, and the list could go on!
Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns. I am so excited for your child to have the opportunity to learn music through the Springfield High School Band!
Yes, there is a $25 band fee
There are several local music stores that offer rental programs for approximately $25-$35 a month. You may also buy new or used instruments. Please DO NOT buy or rent an instrument now! I provide detailed information on obtaining an instrument at the beginning of the year with specific name brands to rent/buy, as well as those to avoid.
Students should practice at least 15 minutes five days a week. This will do more for the student than one long practice session once or twice a week
At some times, we will have afterschool rehearsals until 5:00 pm. These dates will be communicated ahead of time.
Yes, we play a Winter and Spring concert as well as other small performances throughout the school year.
Please contact me ASAP so we can work together to provide the necessary materials for your child to participate in band. We will figure out a way together for your child to participate!
