The selection process for the Gifted and Talented Music Program will require your child to take a musical aptitude test and be evaluated by their Music Teacher. Your permission is required for administering this test and the evaluation. Sixth-grade students will be given the appropriate level of the Gordon Music Aptitude Test. This test measures tonal imagery, rhythmic imagery, and musical sensitivity. Seventh and eighth-grade students will be evaluated using an exam made up of music theory concepts taught in the previous year. In addition, your child will be evaluated by his or her Music Teacher using the EBY Musically Gifted Behavior Index, which rates musical behaviors in in-class activities.
Please understand that the program is highly selective, and the results of the selection process are final.
The in-person test will take place the week of October 5, 2026. The total testing time will be approximately 40 minutes. In-person testing date and details will follow by email from your child's Music Teacher.
