Last week in The Ancient Greek Civilization Knowledge unit we read the following stories: Thermopylae: The Persians Strike Again, The Great Thinkers of Greece, and Alexander the Great: Part I. Ask your child why Alexander's soldiers thought he was brave (he rode in the front of his army and he never gave up a fight).
We started our lesson on adding two digit numbers in math. Some of the strategies we learned were: drawing a quick sketch of tens (draw a line) and ones (draw a dot), adding tens and ones, and using an open number line. Please practice counting by tens at home, and ask your child what ten a number is closest to. For example - 58 is closest to 60 because 8 ones are close to making another ten.
The character strength that we discussed was self-control. We talked about how showing self-control affects our own ability to learn and that when we show self-control it helps our classmates to be better able to learn.
Although the weather didn't cooperate, we had a lot of fun on Halloween. We paraded in school, went trick-or-treating in our classroom, and played bingo. We also had some yummy treats. Thanks again for all of your donations! I uploaded a class picture into the shared drive. I put it in the Class Pictures and Halloween Spirit Week folders.
