This past week in our Knowledge unit, The War of 1812, we read the following stories: Broad Stripes and Bright Stars, The Battle After the War, and Peace and Pirates. Ask your child  how privateers and pirates were the same (they both were sailors who stole cargo). Ask how they were different (privateers were hired to help the government, while pirates stole to help themselves). We will begin our new Knowledge unit, Cycles in Nature, after our holiday break. 

This past week, we took our quiz on two-digit word problems, and quizzes went home on Friday. We also started our new lesson Solve Word Problems Involving Money, and will take that quiz before break. Please practice naming and counting quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies at home. It's also helpful to practice counting by 5s and 10s if your child hasn't yet mastered this skill.
