We started a new Knowledge unit, The War of 1812. We read the following stories: America in 1812 - Parts I and II, Mr. and Mrs. Madison, Another War Already, and The Attack on Washington, D.C. Ask your child what Mrs. Madison was able to save when the British invaded their home (a painting of George Washington).
This past week, we've been applying what we've learned about two-digit addition and subtraction to word problems. We've also been continuing to practice coming up with all of the facts that belong to a fact family, using the unknown, when given a bar model or number bond. This is something that you can practice at home. We will review for our lesson 9 quiz and will take it tomorrow in class.
Our SEL lesson this week was Different Feelings. We discussed that different people can have different feelings about the same thing because of their experiences or the stories they've heard. Ask your child to share some of the examples we discussed in class when we looked at various images (a big caterpillar crawling on someone, a big plate of broccoli for lunch).
