Our Daily Schedule
In our Ancient Greek Civilization unit we read the following stories: The Olympic Games, All for Sparta, and Athens and the Olive Tree. Ask your child what life was like for a young Spartan boy (at the age of 7 they leave their family and begin training as a soldier). You can also discuss how the city of Athens got its name (to honor the goddess Athena).
We started our new math lesson on adding two digit numbers. Thus far, we learned how to do a quick sketch to represent the tens and ones. Ask your child what they draw to represent tens (a line) and ones (a dot). We also learned how to regroup (how to combine the ones from one of the addends to make another ten). Finally, we learned to use an open number line to add. We will review for our lesson 6 quiz and take it on Friday. The next lesson will be on subtracting two digit numbers.
