Last season was an extraordinary year for both of Liverpool's basketball teams, boys and girls, finishing with a record of 21-4. After both taking home the sectional title, regional title, and unfortunately losing in state semifinals, the Warriors return this winter to try and protect their crown.
Boys, having two straight sectional and regional wins these past two seasons, lost four out of the five starting players. With two starters graduated, and two now playing at prep school, the only starter returning this 2023 season is Junior Fredrick Fowler Jr. “This season will go great.” Says Fowler, “The goal is still the same as last season, to get a state ring.”
Girls fortunately have four starters returning, those being Kaylyn Sweeney, Gianna Washington, Grace Sleeth, and A’briyah Cunningham. “Based on our success last year I am confident in our ability to come back just as strong and win another sectional title,” says Sweeney. “We lost some seniors last year but we have some new additions to the team that could bring a whole new dynamic.”
With high expectations this year for the Liverpool basketball program as basketball is many Liverpool students favorite sporting event, the Warriors will work hard to bring home another sectional and regional title, and bring home two state titles.
