Media literacy means being able to understand, question, and create media (like videos, social media, ads, or news). It helps you figure out what messages are really saying, how they might influence you and others, and how to share your own ideas clearly and responsibly.

Media is any form of created content or information. In addition to the examples of digital media depicted in the graphic below, media can also include many other information sources like books, magazines, newspapers, business logos, and more.
While media is any kind of information we might consume, the media is "an umbrella term we use to talk about the widely distributed newspapers, TV channels, websites, radio stations, movie studios, and more that create or distribute information" (CrashCourse, 2018, 2:11).
