Welcome to 7th Grade Science. I am looking forward to the new school year and getting to know all of my students.

I use Google Classroom to post our agenda and our work every day. If a student misses class, they will need to check Google Classroom to see what they missed and what work we did that they will be responsible for making up.

You will be able to get updates to what is happening in class here and check for any homework. If a student needs to access documents from the day's class, they will need to access it from our Google Classroom.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Today we learned how to use the SmartBook in iScience.

If you were absent, you will need to go to Google Classroom for instructions on how to make this assignment up.

HOMEWORK:

Set a 15 minute timer, at minimum, to work on and hopefully finish the rest of your SmartBook assignment in your iScience account. Finishing this assignment will help you identify what concepts you need to focus your time on when you are studying for the test.

If you finished the SmartBook assignment, please spend at least 15 minutes preparing/studying for your test.

Students will also need to do any MSNG assignments from Aspen. All MSNG work is going to be due on Friday, November 3rd.

TEST:

Our first test will be on November 3rd for chapter 1 lesson 1. Students will spend the time leading up to the test to review the four different Earth systems, how they interact, the water cycle, rock cycle, carbon cycle, and phosphorus cycle.

Thursday November 2, 2023

Today we spent time studying for tomorrow's test. Students were given different resources to choose from and they were able to choose the study method that would work best for them.

All missing work is due tomorrow.

Monday November 6, 2023

I was out today. Students watched two EdPuzzle videos with questions. One video was on Earth's Biomes and the other video was on Ecosystems. Students then read a page on Biomes and Ecosystems, drew a picture ot represent what they learned in the reading, and defined/drew a picture to respresent 6 words from the reading. Students were given the opportunity to do extra credit by researching a biome and answering a few questions about it.

If students did not finish the work from class, they needed to finish it for homework by Wednesday, the start of class.

Wednesday November 8, 2023

Today we went over our new vocabulary words for Chapter 5 Lesson 1: Biomes and Ecosystems

HOMEWORK:

Use the GIMKIT link posted in our Google Classroom STREAM to practice our vocabulary words for 10 minutes.

If you did not complete the work from Monday, (EdPuzzles and Ecology Packet) you need to do that. It needs to be turned in tomorrow.

Thursday November 9, 2023

Today we spent more time going over our new vocabulary list and practicing our words. We will have our vocabulary quiz on Friday, November 17th. Students should be practicing their vocab every day after school to be prepared for their quiz.

HOMEWORK:

Use the link: https://www.gimkit.com/join/654d3211fd5caf0031920cbf to practice vocabulary over the weekend. If you focus your time on just answering questions and not playing the game you will be able to finish faster.

Tuesday November 14, 2023

Today students practiced vocabulary to prepare for their quiz on Friday. They also did stations containing information about each biome. Students were comparing the differences and similarities between the biome's locations, climates, soil, plants, animals, and human impacts. We will continue this activity tomorrow.

November 16, 2023

Today students had the opportunity to finish any work that they needed to catch up on from this week. Once they were done, they watched videos on EdPuzzle; Weather vs Climate AND Biomes.

Homework:

Study for the vocabulary quiz tomorrow.

Missing work is due on 11/28. Grades are closing for trimester 1.

November 17, 2023

Today we took our vocabulary quiz and watched a video called Absurd Planet where students learned about different aquatic ecosystems and the species that live there.

Homework:

All missing work is due on 11/28.

November 20, 2023

We started chapter 5, lesson 2 today. We began learning about the different aquatic ecosystems by using our books to organize information about streams, rivers, ponds, lakes, wetlands, estuaries, open oceans, coastal oceans, and coral reefs.

Homework:

All missing work is due on 11/28.

November 21, 2023

I was out today, but students continued working on their exploration of aquatic ecosystems today.

Homework:

All missing work is due on 11/28.

November 22, 2023

We had our annual Turkey Trot event today so we did not have classes. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

November 27, 2023

We finished working on gathering information about aquatic ecosystems today.

Homework:

November 28, 2023

Today we started an Aquatic Ecosystems reading activity. For the first activity I read to the class about streams and rivers. Together, we completed a Venn diagram to organize the similarities and differences between the two. For the second activity students tried organizing the similarities and differences between lakes and ponds as I read. Afterwards, as a class, students shared what they were able to collect for information. As students did this, they added to their own venn diagram to complete it.

HOMEWORK:

If you did not finish the Aquatic Ecosystems Packet from last week, you will need to complete that over the weekend.

November 30, 2023

Today we continued our Aquatic Ecosystems reading activities. As I read about Wetlands, students quietly listened. Once I finished, students did a word dump. They had 60 seconds to write down all of the words they remembered from the reading that described what a wetland was. Then, as a class, they shared out all of their words and we created a class list together. As I read about Estuaries, students either closed their eyes or had their eyes open as they built on the imagery created from the reading. Once the reading was completed, they drew what they imagined an estuary to be.

HOMEWORK:

If you did not finish the Aquatic Ecosystems Packet from last week, you will need to complete that over the weekend.

December 1, 2023

Today we read about some of the different ecosystems found in the ocean; coastal ocean, open ocean, and coral reef. As students listened to the reading they added drawings or words to represent each area on a drawing on their paper. Once we were done reading they had the opportunity to create a collective drawing as a table group using chalk on the lab tables. At the end of class students added anything they were missing based on the image that was on the tv in class to ensure they had a completed drawing.

All Trimester 2 Missing Work is due 12/15/23 for credit.

December 4-8, 2023

This week students were real estate agents for their very first client, an aquatic organism. Students had to research information about the "home" they were selling for their client, make a brochure or flier to advertise their client's home, and create a menu from their client's favorite restaurant that happens to only serve their client's food sources. Projects are due at the end of class on Friday.

All Trimester 2 Missing Work is due 12/15/23 for credit.
