See below for curriculum maps for each term.
Much of our learning will be child-led and we will be planning for hands-on, collaborative, purposeful, challenging and connected learning opportunities. All subjects in Year 5 are planned collaboratively as we aim for consistency in outcomes across all classes. There will also be opportunities for your children to be taught by other teachers across the year group too, preparing them for life at Secondary School and we look forward to meeting all the children in the Year Group.
Your children will also form our new Eco Council, giving them a real voice in promoting and making realistic but dynamic changes to our school and local environment and creating positive impacts for our planet. We look forward to holding discussions and supporting them to develop and implement their ideas; much of this will be the focus of our curriculum especially during the Summer Term.
Parents have asked in the past how they can best support their children with curriculum learning at home. An overview of our termly learning can be found on the 'Curriculum' page of this site and using these topics for quick conversations around the dinner table or on the way to and from school can really support your children. Whilst we don’t ask for books to be purchased to support learning, some parents do ask if there is anything that would help. All three classes will be reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl as their first class stories during the Autumn term.
Some children like to be able to follow along with the book or re-read sections at home. Additionally, we have found ‘Write Like a Ninja’ by Andrew Jennings to be a supportive and accessible toolkit for helping with writing, particularly if this is an area your child has found difficult in the past.
