WHAT IS A BIG GOAL?
A Big GOAL is a specific goal students need to achieve within a certain time period.
Fall Big GOALs
Writing: We can write a "small moment" personal narrative piece with finger spaces between our words, capital letters beginning our sentences, and punctuation ending our sentences. We can explain and move through the writing process, from thinking of an idea and planning to writing, revising with feedback at the Author's Chair and through conferencing, and editing with a checklist and a red pen before publishing.
Math: We can count, read, and write numbers up to 120.
Reading: We can segment and blend words.
Winter Big GOALs
Writing: We can write an opinion piece with a clear topic, opinion statement, at least three reasons, and a closure sentence. We also use "Wh" questions to add details to our reasons we think or believe what we do.
Math: We can add and subtract using a variety of strategies. We can identify missing numbers from patterns.
Reading: We can retell a story with a main idea and at least three details in sequence order.
Spring Big GOALs
Writing: We can write an informative piece with a clear topic, at least three facts, and text features like a table of contents, bolded terms in body text defined in a glossary, labels, and captions.
