About Us
Little Rhythms provides children aged 6 weeks -5 years, of all abilities the opportunity to engage with music theory and practice in a fun learning environment. Children will have the opportunity to sing, dance and play instruments while also learning foundational music theory skills which will set them up for a future of music appreciation, performance and more!
At Little Rhythms, our education program is custom designed because your child is younger- not because they are less capable. We use real instruments, just like you would find in orchestras, concert bands and ensembles.
Often there is a belief that in order to engage a child we need to make something that is already beautiful in design more “childlike”. However, as parents and guardians we see every day our child’s capacity for connection with real world objects.
Little Rhythms never underestimates your child’s ability to learn and connect with real instruments. We believe that there is no need to take away from the beauty or quality of a drum or tambourine in order to encourage child interaction. Your child isn't learning to become a musician - they are one! Let us help to foster their natural ability with the equipment they will continue to use throughout their lives.
Our program is research based and draws influence from various teaching styles including the Kodaly Method and the Orff Schulwerk approach.
Hayley is the founder of Little Rhythms and is an experienced multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, clarinet and piano. Hayley was incredibly lucky to have grown up surrounded by music- her father is a musician who taught her to play guitar and her mother supported her love for music by signing her up for music classes from the age of 3! She fell in love with the clarinet and began playing in concert bands and ensembles at the age of 11 and by the age of 17 began her first tutoring business. Through this business, Hayley taught children to play clarinet and guitar while also working with adults for rehabilitation, teaching the clarinet. She became an Early Childhood Educator at the age of 20 and has now worked in the Early Childhood industry for over 10 years, holding her Diploma of Children’s Services (Early Childhood Education and Care). In 2015 Hayley first began implementing a music curriculum for 6 week to 5-year-olds while also working as the educational leader at her early learning service. This experience reinforced her belief that all children should have the opportunity to engage in quality music education in the early years. Hayley decided to create her own music program to support early childhood development through active engagement and exposure to a variety of musical instruments and concepts which will set children up to be lifelong learners. She is also a mum to three children aged 8, 6 & 3 who have a vital role in ensuring all aspects of her curriculum are engaging and fun!
